Laura and Mike

September 24, 2008

Well I am all caught up for this coming weekends wedding on Mackinaw and I thought I would post one last blog before our weekend away. Laura and Mike were lovely to work with, a very happy couple and we really enjoyed their wedding day (although getting lost on the way wasn’t the funnest, what is up with Google Maps leading us to the middle of nowhere?). Well we found the place just fine after a quick call and the location was very cute and outdoorsy. Luckily the rain let up and we got an outdoor wedding in spite of the damp grass. The wedding and reception location was in Traverse City at the Frog Pond Village

I wouldn’t usually put two dress pics up, but the bridesmaids asked how many people I have had helping a bride get ready. There were many hands helping with this one, but I think that is totally normal with such a beautiful lace up back.

And this is why I love my husband (well one of the reasons). My favorite wedding shot of his, I just love the angle and the perspective. So fun.

A newer trend, alot of weddings this year opted for the father/daughter mother/son dances to be joined. Which can be a really cute photo op.

I should be sleeping

September 23, 2008

It is almost midnight and instead of blogging and playing on facebook, I should probably be sleeping. Oh well. I was so excited to watch House tonight and then with 15 minutes left the cable and internet went out, so missed the whole ending. So instead of relaxing I came to the office to work, of course. We will be gone from September 26th-29th or so and I thought I would get up a post before heading out (possibly another one before Friday). So this isn’t an engagement shoot, this is Taylor from the senior post below with her beau. I really did have fun shooting them and really liked how modern/urban they were as a pair. :) So here are my favorites.

Taylor

September 22, 2008

So I haven’t done many senior/family shoots this summer. Part of the reason is I didn’t want to overwhelm my pregnancy and wanted to make sure I kept on top of things for weddings all summer long. The other reason being that I am not working from a studio. I considered/dabbled in studio lighting and such when I first started my photography business, but all in all shied away from anything to do with lights, backdrops, etc. Without an actual studio building the logistics are just to hard to deal with. So the few shoots I did do this summer were studio lighting free, my favorite way. As for Taylor, I have known her family for a few years now and shot her sisters pics two years back as well as some family pics of her, her 4 siblings, mom and dad. I had alot of fun at this shoot and was hoping that the sun would stay out as long as we needed it, but honestly I could have shot for at least another hour (so I guess the sun wasn’t as cooperative as I would have liked). So here is Taylor’s senior preview.

So, next year I will be taking senior/family shoots on a limited basis. This is the style and the feel that I will be going for, so if you would like a modern feel to your senior shots and don’t mind getting your head-shots done elsewhere, feel free to contact me.

Contests

September 19, 2008

We are having a comment contest! Post as many comments (one to each blog post) on any of the blog posts between now and October 15th to win. On October 16th we will ask a random person to pick a number between 1 and however many comments we receive and then we will let you know who won!

Here are the rules, the comments have to be valid. You can’t comment things like, “what up”, “how’s the weather”, “nice feet”, etc. We approve all comments, so if yours isn’t up then it is cause we don’t approve, but not because we don’t love you! You also can only post one comment per post, so that it is fair. But you can post on every blog post on the new blog, not just this one. So one per blog post.

We just want to get this blog out there and hope that people will come around more often if we bribe them!

So here is the prize,

“This soft pure wool scarflette is made of a lovely vibrant array of
muted autumn tones, in browns and greens. I’ve hand knit it in a ribbed
knit, so it is quite stretchy, and it fastens wherever you like with
two small round wooden buttons.

It measures 20 inches in length by 6 inches wide, but there’s plenty of room to stretch it to however you might like to wear it.

Great if you don’t want the hassle of a long scarf, but need that extra bit of warmth around your neck.

Hand wash in cool water, reshape while damp, and lie flat to dry.”

This is from etsy from seller katebuckleyart

I know this is something that only a girl would wear, but for any guy who wins they would have a fun little gift to give to a girlfriend/fiance/wife. :) Anyhow, I thought it would be a fun little scarf for fall and I love knitted things, so so much.

3 Year Olds

September 16, 2008

I hadn’t taken any pictures of Parker for his 3 year birthday, we were just so busy all summer we never had a chance. So a few weekends ago when we had some time off we headed to the zoo to take a few pics. I still want to do some more when fall hits, but for now here is my little boy being his crazy self.

This is what I get when I try to even get him to look at me for one minute when I have a camera pointing at him…

Brushing the animals. He had a blast.

The goats were a bit freaky. They kept ripping things out of peoples pockets and purses. This goat just grabbed some paper out of her purse. It was pretty funny, but they freaked me out way to much to stay for very long.

Riding the camel. Parker wasn’t scared at all, even though there were several children screaming in line with him.

The tiger was very interested in the line of people watching it. She came right up to the glass and was head butting it.

The stingrays were my favorite part. Parker wouldn’t even put his hand in the water, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Emily & Ryan

September 10, 2008

WOO HOO, our first blog post ever on our new blog. I am very pumped about the blog and still excited about our website update. Life is good at the moment and I know that we will constantly be changing things, but it feels like so much has come to a close this week that I can relax and kick my feet up.

That being said I am so excited that Emily and Ryan are the first wedding to be featured on the new blog. Mostly I say this because of how wonderful their wedding was. Ryan quoted it pretty well when he told me at the end of the night, “This day would have been completely perfect if it weren’t for the (vender’s name here, who I will not mention out of the goodness of my heart).” Honestly, even with that little problem and of course the little down pour we experienced (luckily after the outdoor ceremony) everything went extremely well. And to top it off it was just fun, Emily and Ryan were so easy to get along with, there was enough time for everything (photo wise) and they just had so much fun with everything. From beginning to end it was one of my favorite weddings. So in honor of the new featured gallery that will be going up on the website soon, this blog post is going to be a bit long. :) I also want to say, to view our old blog and see alot more work than we have here right now, check out the links on the top right hand corner.

Here we go, there are ALOT of images here, I am talking a ridiculous amount and I might have to narrow them down more as I go.

And my absolute favorite thing of the night! At a table they had Polaroids for their guest and costumes. I couldn’t believe how into it everyone was and we got a ton of photos of the fun, and a few of the aftermath. It was such a great idea, especially if you want pics of your guests during the reception.
